Europe appears to be positioning to negotiate with Russia with Zelensky giving them his blessing. Whatever that means. I mean they are technically not at war with Russia, Ukraine is, so its a bit confusing as to what they hope to achieve (and why Ukraine is not included) or even what their goals are. Kinda late to the table, it would have been a thought to do that Summit which Angela Merkel suggested all those years ago (Which Poland and Co. Vetoed) or the negotiations right after the war started, but better late then never. They (Europe) probably finally realized that trusting the US to act on their behalf in talks with Russia, is/was a bad idea.

tl;dr

The US pulled the support plug, told Europe to pick up the bill. Europe can't keep sending 100bn annual care packages to Ukraine, and it's been clear that sanctioning and throwing more money wont get Russia to leave. It's like we've all known the outcome since 2023 and instead of everyone accepting it, we need to waste hundreds to billions and many lives to get everyone to finally get it.

EU can't support Ukraine and Russia is basically all but bankrupt.
