I don’t know how republicans recovering from this come midterms. I said this would happen about a month ago. In the US 5/gallon is annoying, but we’ll be generally okay. Other parts of the world this could mean skipping meals.
Iirc, gas prices spiked particularly highly across the midwest because two major regional refineries are currently offline due to technical issues. So it's not just the impact of the war and might not end up as drastic in other parts of the country.
But yes, gas prices will surge everywhere and that spells the end for any GOP hopes of avoiding a wave election in the midterms. At this point, Democrats should even be somewhat favored to take the Senate, while the House is long gone.
