Blizzard is an awesome skill. I definitely get that. It is significantly higher damage than FO, even with the same point distribution. That said, it gets boring to me because I personally believe it to be on the overpowered side. Positioning and awareness are not nearly as important on blizzard as with many other skills in the game and just feels like the "easy button" for me. I am also a child at heart and something frustrating to me is casting a spell that rains frozen death from the heavens only to miss a unit for the entire duration, sometimes twice in a row. I see that skill and think "the stars could absolutely align and fuck my day up" if RNG is being a particularly cruel mistress. I have taken multiple characters to 99 with Blizzard, but it just doesn't satisfy me the way Frozen Orb does.
Skill issue, aiming and crowd management. In detail, frozen orb is a single target skill which should be cast from a certain distance to explode behind the target to be effectice. The chill effect is nice but not nearly enough to freeze monsters for a long time .
Frozen Orb is a study in contrasts compared to Blizzard. Frozen Orb requires significantly more tactical and positional awareness to be effective, requiring you to ebb and flow with the battle. Frozen Orb forces you to constantly keep teleporting and seek an edge over just blasting with raw power. Up until the skill's wall, the better you play, the more damage you deal. I very much enjoy that. It also helps a lot that if you play correctly, you *will* hit your target 100% of the time. I am a person all about consistency and that is what appeals to me above all else.
Completely untrue, your aiming sucks, have to be said, sry. Blizzard is more tactical and rewarding. You cast blizzard between the monsters and let them move, the ones in front can be frozen for a long time with superior ice blast chill. Ice blast does more damage on blizzard's cooldown vs single target than FO most of the time. When more monsters arrive, you teleport past them and repeat the same. Blizzard can be stacked, you need to know how to aim and stack blizzard, very important vs Baal for example. Blizzard is also superior for leveling. You cast and forget.
Hybrid FO/Blizz is obviously the way to go to min-max damage, however it isn't viable for me personally and I generally just play Frozen Orb alone. One thing most people don't know about me is I have a few irl animals that I have rescued from dire circumstances over the years that have special needs, and they require a lot of attention and holding with one arm to comfort them, so I generally play D2 one-handed. Caring for them is very time intensive. One handed play really doesn't easily allow for using teleport, static, frozen orb, blizzard, and ice blast between cast delay in rotation - skill issue, sure, but when I am so far in the endgame I can focus on a better balance for me of playability, fun, and skill.
I don't like Blizz/FO because of the positioning for FO otherwise you're wasting skill points. I go with blizzard and ice blast.
TDLR: FO is either a 1 point skill to level up your friends in normal, for leveling through NM or to complement some shitty hybrid sorc.
