I have a friend I met working at a local haunted house last season.. weve been hanging out some doing hikes and such and the other day he told me he cant swim..
I want to encourage him or even teach him how to swim, but ive never encountered an adult that cannot swim should I try to teach him myself or do i sign him up for lessons at the YMCA?
What would you do? He is 22 years old.
Best to ask to see if they are willing to be coached and if so, yes to sign them up so that they can get a well rounded few lessons. If they want to just go for it, then do teach them in not deep waters, e.g., chest high. As you are knowledgeable in health and well-being, I do not have to worry about you keeping an eye out if they show signs of exhaustion while learning.

He can learn the way the rest of us did. You play the part of the parent and throw his ass in the deep end.
That is exactly how I learned at Cape Cod as a child. Father and his friend tossed me and his friend's child into the ocean! Haha. The basics quickly helped us to stay afloat. Then, there was having fun.
