the single greatest health improvement in the last 100 years in the western world (GLP1s) has at once pulled millions from obesity, at the cost of turning off the pleasure receptors in their brains. its a tragic thing that the only thing that made a dent was removing pleasure from the population.

my favorite thing is scrolling instagram and seeing one of the morbidly obese body positivity influencers comment section. if it's not restricted it's literally 50% dude calling them a whale. if it is restricted its a bunch of other whales telling them how good they look. people have supplanted actual human experience for micro dopamine hits from a person who you'll never see in real life who is only doing it because they pray you'll repay the compliment. lose the weight and you might see 70 years old, keep it on and die an early death.

Like you said, it's not about health/help but dependency on health system. All variables considered, I'd rather individual have autonomy over these choices and access to make them. I think the bigger issues is this open air asylum concept the West has adopted under the facade it's morally superior than prior systems.
