Yes. I think internet full access should be restricted at different points in age development. For example, science/learning sites only up to like 10-12. After 13-15 can have some more access. This is where kids start learning about news articles, etc. Access to things like youtube. After 16+ free game imo.

There are adults who don't even understand how "news" websites function or their purpose.

yea cuz teachers assign it as homework instead of sharing an example of their own review of an article and how even if it is good it can be biased in its own way.

No it’s not the same thing at all. Bad does not equal addictive.

I can see why you would give smartphones to your kids if you had any. Did you even read the article?

I skimmed it. Here's the thing about children. They are gonna do whatever they want regardless of what you do. So you might as well teach them to do things safely. Kids these days are completely fucking crazy, but they all have smartphones. It would be like taking away a kids computer. You can't just shut a child out because of "what if".

My dad growing up made sure I always had the most up to date computers and video games. I remember being super young playing doom, hexen, dike nukem. I miss the 90s. Social media is definitely brain rot cancer. But you've gotta teach your kids that.

why would i buy a kid a smart phone? They will get a phone that is call and text capable and that would be it. if they wna buy an expensive phone, they can work for it.

I mean, I'll concede to the point that teachers should focus on educating young minds.
That's a whole thread in it self, I'd indulge in sharing my viewpoint on.

But more-so I'm thinking bigger picture.
Many news sites are politically associated under an umbrella.
If a parent or teacher doesn't understand this, they can't even begin to share examples of reviewing website information.

Just as you stated, they could view a dozen different 'news' sites and still get the same Bias point of view.

Freedom of Speech does not mean Truth, Anyone including you can own a 'Press' and print anything you want others to read.

problem is that they teach teachers to teach to the test. its why schools are failing the youth of the past few generations. i'd blame no child left behind or w.e happened when i was a kid

it is sadly cuz the intent wasn't met. all it did was standardize the learning system in a way that taught to the test rather than teaching how to learn. i was able to be a teacher myself and quit when while student teaching i ran into this.
