My most recent coffee outings were rather expensive. I skied for 31 days and many coffees were purchased at the resort, many at Lost Boys at the top of the Timber Chair at Ferni (Not my photo). Thankfully a minimum wage paid Australian or New Zealander (they service all ski resorts in North America) wearing a hipster toque served myself and wife. Did they have a liberal arts degree? No. But I assume they were poor and struggling financially which makes the 6 dollar coffee taste all the better.

baristas everywhere serving coffee are the lifeblood of the globe.

their financial misfortunes, though detrimental to their own futures, propel the futures of countless others in countless ways

Very true, going to a counter and looking in the face of exactly what I don't want to end up being while fueling my brain with the necessary stimulants it needs has most certainly secured my future.

unfortunate for him, you only pay with card. perhaps the next patron paid with cash (a boomer) and left him a nice chunk of change
