I asked a popular AI.

Yes, the flat damage from Grief (+340 to +400 damage) is highly enhanced by off-weapon %ED (Enhanced Damage) on a Barbarian, such as Strength, Skills (like Mastery), and gear (e.g., Fortitude).

The damage acts as base damage added before multipliers, making it exceptionally powerful.

How it Works:
Grief's +Damage is added to the weapon's base damage. This large sum is then multiplied by your off-weapon %ED.

Off-Weapon ED: Bonuses from Strength, Weapon Mastery, and armor (Fortitude) amplify this flat damage significantly.

What Doesn't Work: The Enhanced Damage on the Grief runeword itself (e.g., "+20% Damage") only applies to the weapon's base damage, not the +400 flat damage, but the flat damage is so high that this rarely matters.

Character Sheet Bug: The character screen often does not properly display the damage boost from Grief, leading to misleadingly low damage numbers in the UI.

How are max damage charms calculated with grief runeword damage on a whirlwind Barb?

Charms with +Maximum Damage are added directly to the base weapon damage before any percentage-based Enhanced Damage (ED%) bonuses are applied.
The flat +Damage from the Grief runeword behaves differently, acting as a direct addition to base damage that is largely unaffected by weapon ED% but multiplied by off-weapon ED% (like Fortitude or Strength).

Damage Calculation Mechanism
Grief Damage Application: The "+Damage" on Grief is treated as flat weapon damage added to both minimum and maximum damage.

Charm Calculation: +Max Damage charms add their value to the weapon's maximum damage range before percentage multipliers from skills (Whirlwind), stats (Strength), or gear (Fortitude) are applied.

Whirlwind Specifics: For Whirlwind, this combined raw damage is calculated independently for each hand when dual-wielding, potentially doubling the output.
