The crux is how well this deal was actually working, how effective it actually was at keeping Iran's nuclear capabilities at bay. Those politicians, in Washington but also in the EU, who were politically beholden to the Iran Nuclear Deal kept insisting that the Iranian side was fully cooperative, others disagreed heavily. It's been a long time, I don't remember every last detail, but the notion that Iran was telling the truth back then is highly doubtful in my mind. Of fucking course they were striving for the bomb.
You do know that this is Benjamin Netanyahu's argument right, for the last 30 years. "Iran is close to getting / months away / weeks away...from making a bomb." I dont agree.
With the way the US is now bombing Iran though, Iran would be foolish not to get a deterrent.
