Remember Without Russia USA would be speaking German
I hate to say this, but, you are right. From what I can understand, Russia was about 1 year and a half late and America was about 2 years late to join in the effort to impede Nazi Germany's rise and reach. USSR sacrificed about 10 million troops and lost another roughly 15 million civilians to stop the war. The greatest conflict and which may have determined the outcome of the war was between Russia and Germany. The US did not have the same impact on Nazi Germany as USSR had. It was an exceptionally terrible war. Far too many people killed, tortured, and/or starved.
"Most historians agree that the Soviet Union had the largest direct military impact in defeating Nazi Germany."
Even though I loathe Russia's current unhinged leader and the Gulag-like people who help keep him in power, I do value and respect the Russians whose heart and soul went into fighting one of the world's greatest demons, Hitler, and his armies.
