I tested out a similar build going Maul with a Metamorphosis helm+eth Reapers. Fairly strong but it was mostly the Reapers doing all the work with the summons along for flavor.
Gave it up because constantly shifting for Meta procs/bo got annoying. Also felt slow as hell coming off a frenzy barb no matter how much frw I packed on him.
I eventually switched to a self wield Faith with an a1 merc using a Wrath for Decrep procs. Complete meme build tickling enemies with 2k arrows and he struggles in P1 just going down stairs but I love him to death.
Feels like some random hunter woke up to goblins in his living room and said absolutely not; ends up saving the world with his dogs anime style.
If you’ve played one before, how does it compare to a summon necro in your opinion?
I have both so I'll answer.
Not really comparable tbh. Typical summon necro (Fishy) is less minion based and more just a Corpse Explosion bot. Merc+Summons telestomp onto enemy for first kill and then you chain CE from there.
As far as pure summoning comparison, necro wins every time. With moderate +skills skeletons are damn near invincible, although a mage still dies every once in a while. Level 42 Spirit Wolves still die to a single P1 Diablo's firestorm.
Army size goes in the necro's favor too. Mine gets 18 warriors, 18 mages, golem, and whatever revives I bother with. Druid gets 5 fragile Spirit wolves, 3 Dire, a bear, and ravens that go on union break far too often.
Both struggle at bosses but necro gets a 75% CB merc with Infinity/Guills/Coh. Druid drops Infinity's 40 for a Pride. Bosses aside Pride is pretty lousy merc damage for everything else.
Necro has one point wonder curses, druid dumps all his points into summons and scratches deez nutz.
We don't talk about actual dps, druids already dead and that's just disrespectful.
The best part? Druid was even worse before the buff to let all his summons play nice with each other.
