From what I've read it only helps vs. physical damage. I think just one point is enough honestly from my experience taking an ES warlock to 99.

With 1 point in it, it will block at most 100 damage and then disappear. Unless you plan on casting this a hundred times a run, it isn't useful. Imagine having bone armor that blocks 100 damage. Would you keep recasting it over and over again to block 100 damage each time? No.
