I'm not really sure what items I should be using or keeping I'm 21 mage and I get owned by the mobs pretty easily.

The easiest class to start with is either fighter or barbarian.

The cheapest gear are enhanced effect clubs, enhanced effect plate mail, and strength charms. The accessory charm doesn't matter as the only stat that has an effect in that slot is enhanced effect.

You put all points into vitality if your gear is low until 100, then the rest into strength if you choose to use clubs.
