Project Hail Mary
I wasn't particularly excited going into this one. The marketing made it seem like a more lighthearted and comedic version of something like Arrival, which I was game to go see but didn't expect much out of. It does it a huge disservice, because yeah it's actually really funny, but it does so much more than that. This is a PHENOMENAL movie.
Ryan Gosling will almost certainly be nominated for best actor for this and it will be deserved. The Nice Guys wasn't a fluke, the guy is really good in comedic roles. But this is not just that, there is real emotional weight here and the relationship between Grace and Rocky is one of the best I've seen. Those two characters are who you spend the majority of the movie with and that's exactly how it should be because they're both great. They genuinely make you care about a faceless rock. Their budding friendship is blended perfectly into what is a very interesting plot that envelops the whole movie in a sense of dread that the trailers don't let on to. It works really well as a driving force for the events of the movie and is just an interesting sci-fi plot to begin with. The movie has everything.
Rare 10/10 from me. I can't imagine much about it being better
