So why is one stupid and one isnt. Both are references to another medium. I think its a very similar thing.

Both very true, we have a warlock class that looks like dr strange and a new item called the sling ring which dr strange uses. That is quite a few similarities. Wonder what else we are missing!

Edit - thought of one more, the portals dr strange opens are golden bordered and the portal achievement gives us just that
