Atheism can't be fake because it's just the rejection of a claim that hasn't met it's burden of proof.

Atheism isn't a thing that can be true or false, real or fake. It's a position based on a lack of presented evidence.

a more reasoned approach would to call one self some kind of agnostic.

And I believe, the OP for that reddit post is correct. We have not observed speciation in higher order animals from one species to another that prevents the two populations from cross breeding. But again, not a subject I care too much about so I don't intend to debate about it.
