How to get 125fcr and max res?
Insight
Spirit mon 30+ (absolutely good enough) or an expensive 30fcr Ars Dul Mephisto + Um
Arach
Mage/trang
20fcr circ (nothing fancy needed) or even hellwarden, or you can also get the last 20fcr from rings/amy
35+30+20+20+20 = 125
You get your res from:
Torch/anni/scs
Spirit or Um’d Ars Dul Meph
Helm slot (could have innate res on circ, or just from what you socket in whatever helm)
You can get your leech from 2x BK and push your dmg further with HL (if you use a 20fcr helm).
Or you can get your leech from 2x rare rings with fcr, which could also help you get max res.
HL and gores are hard to beat early, but as you upgrade your other gear pieces, you’ll eventually reach overkill dmg even without them. You can then use 1 or even 2 of those slots to fix your survivability if you still struggle with it. Mara is fine. Res boots are fine (aldurs can fix your fire res if you use spirit, else some dual or tri res rare boots can also help you freeing up inventory space if you were using res charms).
You can easily reach a point where you have more than what you need on every aspect, without aiming for expensive items.
With the core gear listed above, pride+might merc, a few skillers... add a renewed bone break and protector jewel? Man your dmg is way beyond what you need.
Echoing strikes has high chances to be nerfed, and we can only speculate on what will be done, if anything is done at all. So until at least next season, I would strongly recommend that you don’t break the bank on this build that is already obliterating hell on p8. The meta may soon be redefined. Expensive gear options like eth Fort TM may soon be impossible to use (if they fix the bug about no hit check being made, it’s almost guaranteed that it will use durability).
But even in the current state of the game, insight is BiS if you give more importance to all other gear pieces instead of caring so much about upgrading insight to something else.
Once you have a pride+might merc, a few skillers, you couldn’t possibly ask for more dmg than what insight provides you.
Best insight base?
Archon staff.
No reqs.
Same avg dmg as CV (91).
+50% dmg to undead.
Better min dmg (this makes it easier to achieve a more standardized number of hits required to kill, which is a big plus in a repetitive game like D2 when you can simply cast once, or twice, to constantly finish the kill instead of holding click until your target is dead due to a huge difference between your min/max dmg).
If you maximize your other gear pieces, you can reach some whooping 700k dps even if you use a NON ETH insight. That’s something worth considering if, like me, you believe that they’ll eventually patch echoing strikes. And if it’s fixed to perform a hit check like it should, the higher bonus ar% on insight will just further push it as the clear BiS option.
Easier to get bases?
Elder staff and Shillelagh
Theyre a bit more common, they get 4os from larzuk
They have the same average base dmg as GPA (86.5) but better min dmg and +50% dmg to undead.
So those 2 other options also outclass any polearm.
