Is it worth it on my sort to socket 6 Ists into a sword and 4 into a shield to switch before bosses die?

It works

This is not really the same but will give you a good picture :
What people do in early ladder/game is 4x Topaz a body armour and 3x Topaz a helmet.
Before the Ists are worth socketing, before you even dropped em, and before you have your shako and enigma/skulders giving you the same MF amount (apart from skulders which will beat any other MF body armour setup)
Even switching amulet, rings, gloves and boots can be a thing in the early part of the game when hitting the bosses.
I mean, anytime really, if you find some MF gear but it weakens you too much for smooth slaying experience, you may still keep this MF piece for this kind of switch.

I mean if you play barb might aswell dual weild

In my opinion not worth the investment
Would go with Rhyme and Alibaba instead
You could later socket that Alibaba with 2x Ist for Mf or 2x Lem for Gf
Until endgame that’s the sweet spot setup
Before, investing 10 ists in your offhand is just an unbelievable waste of resources

Instead, invest in Shako, Gheeds, War Travs, Chance Guards, Goldwrap etc

Or if you are a Sorc, you’ll get full Tal Rasha for much less than 10 Ist

I dont think he said he didnt have the whole Shako Gheeds War Travs Chancies etc
My guess was if he thinks about doing it, investing in 10 Ists isnt a big investment for him. Thats only my guess tho
