Need some help with Hex.
Bane vs purge

Every site says use purge. But I feel bane does way more damage.
Am I doing something wrong or not understanding or do I just need a ton of +skills for the magic damage to be significant?
The -46% enemy defense seems like it would be the way to go.
Thanks

Lolz you trolling me?
If someone has 100% defense you’re going to do less damage to them vs someone with 64% defense.

you need to lower their defense so you can true combo them with a charged R2 into R1 and framebuffer up a wavedash to get away

My dad made me the account in 2007. Used to help me trade items.
Even though it’s not really your business. But anyways.

defense only applies for a chance to hit, it has nothing to do with damage. your defense is checked against attackers, attack rating, to see if hit goes through, the only way to reduce physical damage is DR/curse/wc. if your character is running, your defense goes to zero and then the attack rating of the attacker doesn't matter and all hits will hit you unless you block em....block also gets reduced when you run...

Oh I know that much. I’m sorry I kind of rushed this post and should have elaborated.
I’m using a cleave warlock for a fun little challenge.
Wasn’t sure the best route to go. I know bane drops their defense down a good amount and I seem to do more damage with it. But I seen a lot of sites suggest purge. I feel I miss a lot with that skill and do less damage. Am I doing something Wrong?

Edit - just saw cleave. Below applies to echoing but I’ll leave the post up.

I tried hex purge. I felt the aoe was negligible compared to getting demon mastery up to 20 for a defiler. I switched to hex bane. I found it was slightly more useful on physical immune but a mediocre return on points when death marking in a cursed Hephaesto on most enemies. If I wasn’t using insight + phoenix + pride/might merc I’d use siphon for qol as a one point wonder.

Ended up dropping in a lot more points into blood oath to support a more aggressive play style and felt that made a more noticeable difference.

I think some of the guides were theorycrafting (see: arioc’s) and my experience hasn’t always marched up with their spreadsheets.
