Wait wait wait

Where do you live again? Please remind us.

I live in Chicago now, it’s great if you’re wealthy but otherwise you’re slumming it with the rest of the people. My home abroad is in Surabaya

Lol you don't have to be wealthy to thrive in Chicago. Or any major city at that. Get a better job. Stop accepting low-income jobs and settling and then crying about being poor. You're in a city with endless business opportunities, take advantage of them.

Also, Indonesia has similar issues where most of the money is at the top leaving mostly poor citizens. Except, everyone makes FAR less than Americans and their infrastructure is trash and quality of Healthcare is trash and transportation is trash. But yes besides that indonesia safe place 10/10 😂

You wonder why so many women from indonesia want to marry American men for citizenship? You aren't seeing the reverse. There's a reason for that.

Now you’re talking out of your ass again. Comfortable living index in Illinois is $250k for a family of 4, that’s the average not the expensive part of the state (Chicago and Chicagoland suburbs)

An average residential starter home is about $350k just to start, and then you’re talking about a less desirable neighborhood and maintenance burdens being passed onto you as a buyer. That’s without talking about property taxes or home insurance raking you over the coals. If you want a nice neighborhood and a house without baggage you’re talking closer to $500k

This is for a small sq footage townhouse btw not something spacious or renovated

So if that's a lot to you... then move? There are 20+ states with a lower cost of living. I just see a lot of complaining but you can do whatever you want in the U.S. nobody is forcing you to live in a big city...

I have no desire to have roots in the U.S. so it’s really not a complaint but an observation of the facts. You make it sound like the middle class lifestyle is accessible to many when I’m pointing out data that proves you’re wrong

The poorest 20% of Americans often have higher consumption rates of goods and services than the average person in many Europe nations. This is after accounting for income, charity, and government assistance like food stamps, subsidized housing, etc.

A lot of people who don't make shit for income live very stable lives with air conditioning and a roof over their head and food on the table. Unfortunately, some take advantage of the system and abuse. We've got people who live in poverty eating great every day with their house or apartment subsidized. I support us cracking down on this, but thats a separate convo.

Like I said good to be wealthy and poor but being in the middle as an American citizen, especially as a man, there’s better options abroad
