normal people want voter ID. I would go a step further and make voting day a holiday and cancel work/school.

Could you explain a non us-citizen how voting looks like over there? What do you have to show when you go to a polling station during an election?

Where iam living they have a list of all allowed voters in the disctrict and you have to show a passport or a driving license.

In Ireland, each locality has a voter register. you have to register to vote and you have a single home address. you bring your voter card, which they send out to you, and you hand that in order to vote. sometimes, but not always, they will ask for ID, say for example: first time voting. This format is in multiple european countries with nuances for each country. When you vote, your name is checked off the list.

Why? How? Voting anonymously? Thats not a real option ofc.

Not the correct frame, it's about avoiding fraud. People who aren't qualified to vote, people who are dead, or have already voted.

You would think in such a digital world it would be quite easy to avoid duplication, dead people voting etc. Obviously IT security becomes critical, but when is it not these days so that should be able to be remedied. Just a fully consolidated system.

Yes one would think. Yet somehow the democratic process is entrusted to 3rd party systems that are virtually immune to audit. Remember how easy it was to be labelled a conspiracy theory nutjob by calling into question Dominion's integrity? Simply asking the questions and elevating the importance of recourse, audit, and multiple layers of failsafe for something as vital as voting. The cute and probably somewhat accurate answer here is - power doesn't like to give up power, so if they have a system in which they can count the votes inside a closed system and punish any attempt to audit, they're going to keep it. Hey, I flipped a coin 100 times in the room next door and I won 51 out of 49 times, sorry. What's that? You didn't get to see the coin flips and now you're questioning my integrity? That makes you a conspiracy theory nutjob. Bullocks.

the only reason i oppose voter id is because the govt makes us pay for id. which should be free. if you require me to have a physical copy of my license to drive then it better be free. yes i know its not expensive, no i dont care, its principle.

Why should a physical driver license be free? If you dont like it, dont drive. Why should anyone but you pay for your license? What are you smoking?

why should it cost 40$?

it's like 5$ worth of plastic and labor maximum.

its just a tax on citizens.

add in requiring it for voting and now you're being taxed to exercise your right to vote, no thanks.

im not out protesting having to pay for my DL to drive, but if you have to pay to vote then im much more against that.
