normal people want voter ID. I would go a step further and make voting day a holiday and cancel work/school.

In Ireland, each locality has a voter register. you have to register to vote and you have a single home address. you bring your voter card, which they send out to you, and you hand that in order to vote. sometimes, but not always, they will ask for ID, say for example: first time voting. This format is in multiple european countries with nuances for each country. When you vote, your name is checked off the list.

Not the correct frame, it's about avoiding fraud. People who aren't qualified to vote, people who are dead, or have already voted.

You would think in such a digital world it would be quite easy to avoid duplication, dead people voting etc. Obviously IT security becomes critical, but when is it not these days so that should be able to be remedied. Just a fully consolidated system.

The cute and probably somewhat accurate answer here is - power doesn't like to give up power, so if they have a system in which they can count the votes inside a closed system and punish any attempt to audit, they're going to keep it. the only reason i oppose voter id is because the govt makes us pay for id. which should be free. if you require me to have a physical copy of my license to drive then it better be free. yes i know its not expensive, no i dont care, its principle.

im not out protesting having to pay for my DL to drive, but if you have to pay to vote then im much more against that.

Use your fuckin passport if you have a problem with showing your DL for some odd reason
