prayer is communication, not just a way to get things you want like a vending machine, God is personal and has a prescriptive purpose for your life. Prayer is to align yourself with God's will, to sort yourself out, not to just get things you want from God. The most common prayer is "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner", said in many different ways but it's always the same concept. Sin isn't a legal on/off switch that God just has to punish you for, sin is a moral sickness we are ill with and God is the healer offering to heal you if you willingly participate. The point of prayer is to align yourself with God, to seek the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and to express that same will on others. To forgive those who trespass you, as you are to be forgiven by your heavenly Father.

Praying for the sick is good, and physical death is not the end. Death, decay, illness, are not God's design, but a consequence of our decision to distance ourself from the provider of Life and in that distance our good nature became tainted. I would not despair that your loved ones have died, though it may be hard now, rejoice for they are with the Lord. Your prayers do heal, your participation with the divine life is how you become good ontologically, how you heal the flawed human nature(by participating in what Christ accomplished to be clear, it is not something you do alone without God. There is no man-made salvation, it is only in willingly participating with Him) In other words, you don't just 'do' good things to please God, you stay close to God so that His goodness actually starts to live inside you and change what you are.

It is only through a good God we can become good ourselves, else if there is no good God there is no real "good", just a preference to not murder, and everything is a meaningless accident that we cannot even know.

what I said above might be complicated or not properly explained, if you have other questions or want to take apart the idea go ahead and i'll respond

Terrible analogy. Do not insult Vending machines by comparing them to an invisible magician who doesn’t even exist but people still give donations, spend time on their knees or sacrifice some offering to in the hopes he hears them.
No Vending machines actually work you select your beverage/snack put money in and it will give you what you want at a push of a button. Praying is about as effective as passing gas.

Communication to some all powerful all knowing being is redundant since he should know all outcomes, your every decision. Also if his will cannot be changed so why even bother? Its like talking to a wall and expecting it to hear you.

If you are using god as some sort of a sound board so that you may take upon certain qualities like goodness, humility, generosity etc then its not really god doing the changing it is you. God is just an avatar or a rolemodel that you like to mirror. Nothing wrong with using the bible as some kind of inspiration book to better yourself. There are plenty works of fictions that are used in this exact way. So let's not pretend like he is real or is the only way you can be good.

yes He knows your decisions. so what? you are aligning with His will, not you changing His will. did you even read what I said before you looked for a new facebook meme?

there is no good without God, without an objective standard "good" is just a preference, sex with prostitutes is "good" to me, while it might be "bad" to you. stealing is "good" to me. I don't know how you don't understand this.

maybe it'll help to think of prayer as an alignment, you align your 'compass' to the north pole, the north pole doesn't change. noetic prayer is a practice God gave us to heal our nature by aligning with Him, not a transaction where you offer 5 prayer and receive 5 goodboy points

Its cute how you are trying to put objective standard and "god" in same sentence, or the north pole but as usual wrong. The compass points to magnetic north which is currently over northern Canada NOT over north pole. Magnetic north and even North pole shift they constantly move ever so slightly. But let's put the science stuff aside which is clearly above your paygrade.
The ironic thing is that even your so called god's compass shifts depending on how you choose to interpret them. Religion has been adapting to modern culture constantly redifining good and bad. Heck even the bible has done a complete 180 on what it considered good in 1 book to be bad in the second book. One day the same god says kill everyone leave no survivors the next he tells you to kiss and make up.

What you call god and claim to be objective standard is nothing more than opinions from bronze age dwellers.

If you need religion/god to be good then you are just a bad person on a leash.

you're being pedantic about magnetic north to avoid the point. an analogy is a comparison of concepts, not a physics lecture. whether it's magnetic or true north, the point remains that objective navigation requires an objective point

there is no changing based on interpretation, there is one Church, one Truth, one Way. the Truth is a person and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. there is no redefinition of good and bad.

you don't have an argument, you cannot say what "good" is without an objective standard otherwise it's just your personal preference, it's no different than saying "BOO MURDER". If I am wrong express how murder is objectively bad within your worldview.

you called me a "bad" person. what is "bad" in your worldview? it's simply your preference, there is no "good" or "bad" using your worldview at all, just whatever biochemistry determined your brain to prefer at the moment.

Wrong again
There are thousands of religions.Thousands of interpretations and denominations within the same religion you claims is one true religion. Everyone thinks theirs is the one true way and since you don't have proof this is just another opinion.

I do have a good argument, you just have inability (or unwillingness) to grasp it like your lack of science and analogies that make sense.

Good and bad are value judgements they are purely subjective always have been. I even pointed out that your own bible flip flops between what it defines good and bad. You shall not kill > Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”

Previously you glazed over the part about this so called "divine plan" and didnt address that prayers are either redundant or futile. Instead started to steer the conversation away into talking about good and bad. Lets get back to that before you weasel your way to talking about those ontological rocks again.

I said "there is one Church, one Truth, one Way. the Truth is a person and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.". All the others are not true, they are wrong. All the other denominations are heretical, some more than others. I do have proof, it's not an opinion.

In your worldview there is no good or bad or moral or immoral, it's just preference. Calling me bad is no different than saying "I don't like X".

I explained prayers, please repeat to me my position on prayers so I can be sure you understand my position.

You in fact do not have any good arguments trying to disprove the bibles truth.

God's word is just.

Wake me up when you have that proof and its put on display for us to examine.

Everyone uses judgement to determine what is good and bad for them, some people are just in denial or think that they don't.

You said prayer is about aligning yourself to "his will" and "prayer is communication, not just a way to get things you want like a vending machine"
Which means there is at least 2 components to prayer.
1 Getting what you want like asking a genie to grant you wishes
2 talking therapy, coping mechanism

When you are asking this invisible wizard to have mercy on you. You are still demanding he give you something you do not possess. Like a needy child constantly nagging the genie about your insecurities, save me from x, give you strength to fight demons In your head, deliver you from evil, help your Aunt Maggie to give up meth......etc
When that doesn't work you begin coping and accepting "it is what it is" its part of Devine plan and tell yourself you are just "aligning" yourself.

What i am asking is why pray in the first place? Seems like praying is cope for slow people who didn't understand the "gods will is unchangeable and cannot be thwarted"
So either prayer is futile or redundant pick one.

So tell me, why should God appear before you and what outcome would that achieve?
