Ofc it was a bad decision.. one of many throughout the years, but we've learned to live with them.
The main issues with Madrid this season was the fact that Xabi and/or Florentino decided to NOT to renew Modric due to his age... but they also did not get another midfielders (Yeah Guler is good but he lacks experience) and that's something that Modric/Kroos gave the team... where as Brahim Diaz, Mastantuono or Guler have not been able to do (Camavinga and Tchouameni are basically CDM) so Real Madrid lacks a playmaker at the moment.
The other problem Madrid has right now is they should have gone for another CB (While the injuries have not helped this season with Militao/Alaba/Rudiger), you also have to add that Asencio is by NO MEANS a starting player (at least not at the level of Rudiger or Militao IF they were on form) and Dean Huijsen has also been underperforming. If you add this to the issues with the LB/RB they have (Carreras is probably the most consistent) out all of them... Mendy/Carvajal and Fran Garcia are probably not going to continue at Madrid at the end of the season, Mendy is always injured and Carvajal (even with his history) its probably time to say farewell, as for Fran Garcia... he is not a level of Real Madrid IMO (as with Asencio).
Then you have Vinicius who is a BIG problem for Florentino... and UNLESS a new Manager comes in (Not Arebeloa) and makes him focus on his gameplay, he will be SOLD, there is NO WAY he is going to be paid the same amount as Mbappe and as with recent history, Florentino wont let that slide... same thing happened with Cristiano at one point and Cristiano has to leave as well...
You also have players like Rodrygo who at the end of the last season was rumored to be SOLD but stayed in Madrid and was basically benched for a god portion of the season (Horrible decision this Rodrygo can add a lot to Madrid).
There will be a lot of changes this summer and I'm guessing at least 6-8 players will leave Madrid, I'm wondering who the next manager will be and IF fForentino will continue being the president at Madrid next season.
