I am sure it is, but, mineral deposit pending, I am sure there's significant deposits that are fairly small in footprint that are 20-30+ life of mine deposits that I would think have been proven, but like much of Canadians remote mineral deposits, its just not economically feasible to access. Not sure how the US would change that though.

Just seems like there's a way of going at it with a bit more tact, or perhaps that will come, use force, come to negotiations table a little more willing than if you didn't show aggression, 4D chess, art of the deal and all that jazz.

i dont disagree in terms of tact, however i would add from listening to interviews with both Greenlanders and Danish people their impression is that the Danish officials are completely unwilling to entertain anyone else controlling Greenland. they're like Gollum with his precious. So it may be that without force no real deal can be struck, which to me says just walk away from the table, but Trump has a hard on for minerals atm likely due to the techbros he has in his whitehouse.

I’ve said this elsewhere but this isn’t about minerals or national security. Trump just sees a big landmass on a map and saw Russia invade Ukraine and wants to one-up that.

He just sees something, decides he wants it without any real rationale and thinks people should give it to him solely because he wants it.

This is just who he is. It’s no different than the Nobel, which he essentially admitted in his letter. He continues to show us this and people keep trying to attribute some sort of tactical acumen or thoughtfulness to these desires when it just isn’t there.

As someone who lives ultra remote surrounded by abundances of minerals, I suspect most of Greenland's mineral deposits at this time make zero since economically to go after compared to places where you can still use borderline slave labour and have no safety regulation or environmental monitoring, etc. Northern Canada is covered in rare earth minerals but its just more cost than its worth currently to extract.

I understand that it could be a long play and it eventually could become feasible but that does not play into the narrative of currently pleasing his techbros.

Ah who knows.

its def a long play i agree. also from what i understand china has most of the african mineral trade locked up. so it may be less about feasibility to mine and more availability if china cuts our access. taiwan could go sideways and we might have zero access, and both biden and trump have tried to move chip manufacturing stateside.

You may wana lick Greenland ice lollies.

But we in the Netherlands have a ww3 tradebazooka.

1 Button click and your USA-chip manufacture goes back 40 years in time.

Another click, and ASML will make China the next chip superpower.

And your Amarican golden age will be the stone age

The biggest thing blocking North American resource extraction isn't solely labor, it's all the regulation and environmental concern groups. The surveys in and around Boundary Waters have shown some of the richest deposit of copper nickle on Earth. Elon Musk even arranged a contract with the speculative Tamarack operation which was showing the high percentage on their bore hole surveys. That was 5-6 years ago.

If you took a time machine 150 years back, Tamarack would be flowing ore years ago.

Edit: Tesla just opened a domestic rare earth refinement facility for lithium.
