I don't know about that. I think you tend to look at full packages when you determine if you're going to sit down and listen to someone yap away in your free time. This is an ultra reclusive guy who's bulk fanbase came from a game and genre that wants you to live that lifestyle, so I'm not surprised he has a base to listen to his political views that would not consider those things when considering him for commentary. To me he's the golden globes jack ass but way far the opposite direction but too far that direction. Guy has exactly zero life experience because he never stepped outside his house in 15 years.

You don't view people the same or with compassion when you're a basement dweller living your life out in a video game / fantasy world and your total social interaction is a spamming twitch chat of icons and memes going at blitz speed.

Asmongold is just highly relatable,.hence his massive audience. The average American is not well kempt and mentally sound. I think he took off though because MSM left a huge void for would-be stream journalists or in Asmongolds case, lazy reactions. Also, there is a void for young men gathering for advocacy. Some of the streamers seem to be able to mobilze* it at times.

Probably will be some streamer POTUS nominees soon, ugh.

Oh god, reaction content is the worst. We went from pranks to reaction content to I don't know what is next, I guess AI slop is upon us. I still use YT as my primary place to view I guess entertainment, but I rarely find myself exploring anymore. Just sort of the same subscriptions I've had and how to videos.

I wanna say like 2009-2015 was the best, or maybe its just rose tinted goggles but for me that was the best YT.

I think there's a big cultural deference to laziness but hostility to exploitation. People might be dumb panicky animals but people are also good at sniffing out bullshitters, its why Mike Lindell is relegated to some obscure corner to exploit MAGA whales but Asmongold can be one of the biggest streamers in the world when he barely gives a fuck about the topics he covers. People get out their pitchforks for streamers who abuse reaction videos in a parasitic manner, but don't really care about low effort commensalism

You're not wrong that he has little real world experience outside of that but it doesn't discredit his points. He obviously browses the internet all day so he's very up to date on what's happening. Many of the world's greatest philosophers have been complete hermits - hell, being a real hermit is almost a requirement - being completely separated from normal human motivations, like Asmongold is as he has all the money he ever needs, leaves them completely unbiased. Most boomers rarely even leave their house and live in their online media bubble yet they are the ones with money and votes driving policy.

He doesn't even make videos. He just streams and talks and other people make up clips and post the videos with his consent. His following now is largely from his authenticity

Personality, sensibility and rationality will out. Look at Mike Lindell, probably has more 'life experience' than everyone in this thread combined. Cocaine and gambling addictions and recoveries, bankruptcy and foreclosure, 2 marriages, 4 children, his own business, his own media platform, political campaigns. And he's a total fucking wacko. I don't know what he does or does not make for videos, just from clips I have seen of him, I would say its comparable to philosophy, its always just an expression of his views and that's where I would caution people parroting his views as if they hold some level of authority or weight and toss a video in a thread and say , yeah well Asmongold said this .... which is so often what you see here, as if means anything at all, but I think people think it does. I am not going to even click the video, tell me what you think, but I don't care what the guy who's never lived in this world thinks if I am talking to you.

And I think that in general, I think form your own opinion. If we use this topic here, we have videos of the event itself, Goom formed his opinion I formed mine, we don't need Asmon and he sure isn't some authority to settle it because he might lean one side or another.

Where I think opinions on things do matter, and who is giving them matters is things I cant understand. I am not a doctor, so ill listen to a professional give their opinion. I am not an economist, ill listen to a few with different opinions and judge. But those are matters which I don't have expertise in so I seek commentary from those with professional backgrounds in those areas.

From what I gather on here in this discussion is people like hearing someone who is popular have similar opinions to themselves, and that makes them feel less crazy in this highly polarized world.
