I just put like a 1/3rd of a bottle into my washing machine for good measure, now my house smells like bleach.

I think I overdid it

uh, yeah... that's a little excessive. I'd say half a cap of liquid detergent amount would be enough. I hope you didn't do a 3rd of a bottle of a gallon of bleach.

Need some real practical people to give me an idea of how much powder I need for a full load of washing.

What is the optimal amount?
What is the minimum?
What are the diminishing returns like mf to clearing speed graph? Because if you put too much apparently it leaves residue on clothes.

Not looking for Somalian engineers and doctors I cannot afford your advice.

laundry detergent comes with a scoop its about a cup per average load.
if load is to large that is when you probably get residue because not enough space for rinse cycle water (clothes to tightly packed.

pour in detergent b4 the clothes. fill clothes no more than 3/4 of barrel size. turn on average/normal wash. i dont even look at all the other settings

dont ever use washing machine and leave it running and leave the home. sometimes clothes get out of balance.

I am like lvl 1 noob when it comes to washing machines or washing powders/liquids. I just put the powder directly ontop of my clothes close the lid and push some buttons to start wash. Occasionally I take out those inner side filters that collect lint and clean them out. But not much else.

I don't run any bleach, presoak, softeners or even hot water.

You suggest I do a clean of the washing machine with some bleach first?

ya do this if machine or clothes smell. bleach has awesome uses

Not that much maybe 20oz so just under 3 cups I would say.

I don't like fucking around I nearly put the whole bottle in before I decided let's not get too crazy lmao. I rinsed it 2 times to get the smell out think that should do the trick.

I've been doing testing with different quantities with different washes and landed on a good amount which is somewhere around 3.5- 4 fl. oz or 100-120ml

This is for top loaders for front loaders depending on capacity its around 3.

I also upped the length of a wash to around 70mins.

Now my laundry comes out smelling good and fresh. Also dont use eco/earth friendly products they are mostly snake oil or cost way too much for what they offer. The washing detergent technology hasn't really improved much from 40's and 50's.
Just use an extra rinse cycle if you are concerned about residue of chemicals.

1/4 cup half load
1/2 full load

Top loader?
Let the water run to a quarter full basin, dump the snelly.powder in and mix BEFORE putting clothes in

Front loader?
Get a top loader.
