I actually agree with you for the most part. If people are released and considered "reformed" then they should be able to legally own a firearm again. Obviously a few exceptions could be made to keep people from legally owning such as firearm related charges like armed robbery or anything involving negligent use of a firearm and I guess toss domestic violence in there. But yeah if someone did time and caught a felony for a non violent charge of some sort I think they should still be able to own a gun when they get out. If they can't be trusted to own a gun, then they aren't reformed and have no business being released.
