US Attorney Joe Thompson held a press conference today announcing new raids, arrests & charges in the Somali fraud ring in Minnesota and laying just an inkling of just how incredibly huge its been
In just the 14 federally funded programs administered through Minnesota investigated, with a total budget of $18 billion, over half is now estimated to be stolen in fraud.
Not millions in fraud, not tens or hundreds of millions or even billions, we're now talking tens of billions, the budget of federal programs like the Peace Corps, Nuclear Regulatory Commision and EEOC- all combined.

The office raided today by the FBI was the location of a fraud ring that had been enrolling actual disabled people and charging the programs for round-the-clock care without providing any services. They had listed one 39 year old white man from east st paul who had severe cardiomegaly and charged for 12 hour 1-on-1 care at $462/day just for his case- but he lived on his own without any visits from them. He was found long dead in his apartment, neglected even as St Paul police questioned the 'employees' who said they had been providing care to him that same day, when he was already dead. That company was run by Othman Mohamed and the 'employee' was Abdul Ibrahim

Those charged today included two from Philadelphia who came to Minnesota as alleged fraud tourists who wanted to take advantage of the easy fraud here, despite having no family or associates here- their only connection was their exploitation of the HSS program. Others included autism care fraud by Abdinajib Hassan Yusuf, paying kickbacks to Somali parents who agreed to fraudulently declare their children autistic and enroll on paper only for benefits. Asha Farhan Hassan was indicted in the still unraveling Feeding Our Future fraud, and Hassan Ahmed Hussein and Ahmed Abdirashid Mohamed also ran fraudulent HSS programs, and Kaamil Omar Sallah did so while converting his funds to cryptocurrency to send overseas.

Most of the programs were set up by Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota to pay private individuals for care 'within their communities' without requiring licensing or oversight. The Integrated Community Supports program claims its purpose is to have one-on-one household assistance and caretaking by providers in a community who can then turn around and bill the federal government for their time, instead of having care given in group homes or assisted living. It had no real enforcement or auditing, and just 'trusted' people to submit accurate reports and provide a level of care. The other programs like HSS and EDIBI follow the same template, and they've seen payouts raised by 40x in just the past 4 years.

Id say prison time for anyone defrauding tax payers. Now im sure you'll all join me in agreeing that Rick Scott belongs in prison... but we know that's not gonna happen

Scott's HCA paid 1.7$ billion in fines in that case. if someone had to go to jail instead of paying a fine they'd just scapegoat some mid level manager and the tax payers would be out almost 2 billion dollars.

If my 2AM math is correct. Minnesota fraud could pay 7x Warrior Dividend

Its all relative. Its one whole month of what the EU is pissing away in Ukraine despite being outgunned by Russia and needing slave soldiers the Ukrainians being in blackouts more often than not. Now I'd love to audit where that money has really gone to fraud. But compared to the warrior dividend, remember scale of state vs fed. There are 1.45 million service members so thats just shy of 2.6 billion. But the 10 billion stolen by Somalis is across just 80,000 of them. Meaning a pirate dividend of $125,000 each.


When we talk about how nothing will happen and its been allowed to get this bad, remember: Somali candidates openly complained last election they couldn't break into local politics because the $200 bribe they were expected to pay per mail in ballot collected was too expensive for anyone without the HSS / ICS money already flowing like the incumbents had.
