Have you even read up what Critical Strike does???
+% chance to deal DOUBLE DAMAGE.
So, trading off a 50 Dexterity Item that deals high damage for EVERY ATTACK is more damaging than a +14 Critical Strike item, that is because you are constantly dealing HIGHER damage with the 50 dex item PER attack, whereas, a Critical Strike item only gives you a % (Percent chance) TO DEAL "Double Damage"
Example: You deal 500 avg damage per attack (using 50 Dex) vs 100 monsters and kill them off within 3 minutes. Now you switch 50 dex to 14 Critical Strike, now your avg damage per attack is 200 (not 500), but you deal double damage 14% of the time with Critical Strike... well 200 damage + Double damage = 400 avg damage, still crap compared to a CONSISTENT damage of 500 when using 50 dexterity vs 14 Critical Strike item.
^Bigheaded chime in any time. This needs to be sorted out, we done our tests and have proven this before.
50dex wont get you from 200 dmg to 500 dmg.
First of all i am pretty sure that there is not "the answer" but the stat vs crit ratio can only be narrowed down to a certain degree.
what about 1 dex vs 14crit? dex still better? ^^ 10dex vs 14 crit? 20dex vs 14 crit? 100dex vs 14 crit? 1 dex is worse than 14 crit while 100 dex is for sure better than 14 crit (for dagger sure.. also for clubs?)
it highly depends on how much total stats, which weapon type, which weapon quality, etc..
you can easily figure out a simply example to compare these 2 things. first scenario you do 500 dmg, 500 dmg, 500 dmg, 500 dmg, second scenario you do 400 dmg, 400 dmg, 400 dmg, 800 dmg.
In the first scenario your normal avrg dmg is 500, zero crits. 2nd scenario normal avrg dmg is 400, 25% crit for 800 which will lead to same total dmg (2000) and therefore same avrg of 500 per hit.
Now the question: How many stats do you need to boost your normal avrg dmg from 400 to 500 (by 25%) and how much +critical strike do you need to boost your crit rate from 0 to 25%.
Another point: If the monster you fight has 2000 life, you will kill it in 4 hits in both scenarios. If each monter had 500 life you would kill 4 monsters in the first scenario (without armor plz ^^). but just kill 2 monsters in the 2nd scenario (as you need 2 hits with these numbers).
To make things more complicated.. stats boost the crit rate too.. especially the off stat which is not worth statting at the first place but adding up with the right gear will help too. different weapon types have different basic crit rates meaning axes crit much more than swords and staves which should crit more than dagger and clubs. casting critting by far the most.
side note: Njaguar once introduced the calculation of life steal which was REALLY complicated and hard to comprehend. I doubt that critical strike is much easier.
usually i try to get high stats first (depending on the weapon type ofc) and then get critical strike on top. i value it like 2-3 stats each but thats really just a rough estimation
