should they? probably. its the how that matters. if they set a price limit i think thats a bad idea, because they'll decide next to put one on gallons of milk, or new cars. and the market will freak out.

if they want to do it the right way they need to put a SAT/ACT testing and/or GPA requirement on federally backed student loans. limit the demand by not giving cash to people who arent good at school.

there are grants for poor people, i actually got a few. and scholarships, but there aren't a lot of those. maybe 10-20% of people get a scholarship, but most are small ones that might cover a few books.

the biggest issue is the govt basically guarantees anyone who gets accepter to college can get financing. so universities let in a BUNCH of people. so many that a lot of dormitories have to convert spaces like study rooms as sleeping areas until rooms open up when people drop out.

20 years ago if u had a low GPA and low ACT score you couldnt get accepted anywhere. now you can get accepted at all sorts of state schools. the govt signaled it would front money, so colleges flooded the market.

Education used to mean something and carried weight in society. It's the overall erosion of morals and values across the board including those of the op let's not kid ourselves, that led to education becoming less important and the quality of our education deteriorating over time.

I can see why, universities want to earn more, tutors and lecturers need their raise, and how convenient it would be to get guaranteed income from the government.

I remember you work with needy kids ya? What wad your college degree ?
Does the government reimburse or help finance your degree if you are working in special fields that service the public ?

im a mechanical engineer in the automation industry. but you may be thinking of my wife, she's a special needs teacher for 3-4 year old kids. and YES, the govt pays off your loans if you make 10 years of payments, basically once you hit 120 payments they will pay it off if you work in certain sectors. counseling, teaching, social work, etc.

Dont you have to apply and go through some rigorous process for that? My parents were both in the military lifelong and my mother was in the medical field and they both struggled with student debt until they were 50.

Tough in our day and age, a wrong step might get you a bullet in the neck or a group of powerful people might get together and kill your career with no one hiring you because of your views.
