I mean it's obvious why duffman brought it up. Look how bad the Russians are! Meanwhile the objective take is this is just a very cruel part of the world that still operates as if it's in the middle ages with no regard for life. Sahel region is basically the same tier as Syria was during ISIS but unlike Syria it's just the norm there for eons.

pretty much sums it up. i was listening to a podcast earlier, apparently there are 56 active wars going on around the world as we speak (the most of which are in Africa). the value of life is dropping like flies.

You're obsessed with framing the Russians as bad, so you ferret out any detail across the globe to support the take. Victim and oppressor in that region is very difficult to know for a fact and it swings back and forth. On Monday's it's the Tuaregs doing the exterminating, on Tuesday its Mali's military with mercs doing the exterminating. But your take is look at the Russian sellswords at the center of it? Lol.

I don’t quite follow your logic. No one is blaming ordinary Ukrainians for Russia’s actions; criticism is aimed at the US-backed Ukrainian government that KNEW their actions would lead to war, indeed they proclaimed it years in advance. As for Islamist groups, you could also argue that decades of Western interference created conditions for extremism, but that’s a separate issue. There no intelligence in these arguments/statements you are making.

Yes, bad people do bad things but bad people dont all come from the same place, and not everyone in that place is bad.

I don't disagree, but it should still be noted that Russian mercenaries behaving like savages is not a reaction to the environment they're being deployed to, it's their usual modus operandi. Which ties into the (failed) hopes of the locals for less violence: it is not a given that outside forces are as brutal and ruthless as their local warlords or islamists. It wasn't unreasonable for locals - who of course lack our historical knowledge about the Russian military - to hope for a little less savagery.
