To be fair
I wish they didnt pay them the 10s of millions at all.
These NCAA programs will just start sucking up more tuition money to cover brand deal and ad shortfalls
But fooseball is more important than actual professional degrees now I guess.

he gave 2 months notice and they said we are good we dont want you

There isn't a competitive industry in the business world that would be okay with you continuing to work a job for 2+ months while you have accepted a new job with a direct competitor. At a minimum, it's a conflict of interest with your current job's duties.

Lets not act like Ole Miss letting Kiffin finish the year is an easy, obvious choice. It isnt. And there is literally 0 precedent where other schools have done this. OM would be an even bigger laughing stock if they let Kiffin finish the year while he has a job at LSU next year.

If Kiffin got a job in the NFL that would be different, hell if he got a job in a non SEC conference maybe they WOULD let him finish the year.

Yep, thats why they write Non-compete clauses into contracts. doesnt seem like Ole Miss did that. again, back to OM's fault.

Being a football coach doesnt really have a direct crossover comparison to working in corporate America.

Do you think its a 1:1?

Y’all are missing the point. I’m not blaming Ole Miss or Kiffin.

I’m blaming the NCAA for allowing the timing of this. Considering the position of the teams and fans, it’s best for coaches to be required to finish out a season unless they’re fired.

The best version of the team should be playing in the playoffs. Hard to say that’s the case when losing a HC. I think the reason behind this timing is because of the portal window, which is a different issue in itself.

For the NFL, it’s hard to say the best version of the team is playing when your coordinators are preparing for Interviews during the playoff run.

This is why I said Ole Miss basically fired him. He wanted to stay to coach out the season but they told him no. JMU/NT/Tulane all have coaches going somewhere else but they are finishing out the season.

I agree with you that the NCAA brings this on themselves and there isn't an easy fix because of what you illuded to - the transfer portal. It seemingly never closes.

NCAA CFB does a great job of hurting its own product while simultaneously trying to make it better.(Other sports do this too!) The portal and 24/7 recruiting is great for 95% of the schools that use it, HOWEVER when its also the reason a playoff team loses their head coach then its kind of working against itself. You can't have a great product with coaches leaving early, players sitting out ETC.

Honestly the SEC (and others) probably just need to break away from the NCAA at some point and do their own thing, but thats a separate discussion.
