I couldn't stand the thought of some merchant looking at my beloved hand of broc as just merchandise to be sold, so I gifted them to my old buddy Geglash.




Woop woop! After many white martels, lances, ancient axes and several socketed executioners... my first imbue-able/white executioner!!!

I think this orange large shield will look awesome with Goldskin, so I want to save it. But now, I'm really feeling the squeeze of the limited classic stash space! It's getting claustrophobic in here! I have 2x8 in invent open only. So essentially, and new keepers means throwing something out.

Maxed my gold again and got this dual leech ring while gambling rings! It doesn't have any other good mods, but any dual leech ring at all is excellent for me right now. I'm pretty sure these are max ML and LL amounts I can get also? Can't remember if classic can go to 8 leech or not. Anyways, definitely saved this and will likely be using it as I enter hell.




That's where I'm at now! Still hunting nm chaos for Goldskin! Gimli and Dario both found it much more quickly than this, but the extra runs here have allowed for higher level and nicer hell-entry gear overall I think. I'm largely ready to enter hell, I just need that Goldskin to drop!

Call me noob but I am not an expert with classic. Is it better to farm diablo in this version than mephisto?

In hell, chaos is certainly better because the best rares can only drop there. Hell meph only drops up to 180%ed weapons (out of max possible 200) and no +2 skill amulets at all.

In NM, I have no idea! I did plenty of NM meph runs on my other 2 classic barbs, I guess I just didn’t feel like it this time! I like chaos because it also gives a lot better experience than meph runs, and especially for barb it’s nice because of the find item skill. Lots more champ and boss packs to hork probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to roll a nice meph map and include meph and travincal into the runs, but I’m really enjoying chaos runs right now so I don’t want to mess with a good thing :] if I start to burn out on chaos runs I’ll definitely add some act 3 runs, but I am hoping to find goldskin in chaos pretty soon. Seeing lots of magical/rare and a set full plate mail, and my mf is only going up, so it’s just a matter of time! At the end of the day I’ve only done like 40, maybe 50 runs so I can’t really complain!



Nice of you to say so, I don’t feel I’ve progressed at all haha! I want to find goldskin and get myself into hell! Although I’ll probably be eating my words when I get there and I’m weak as heck. Really hope I can imbue something nice! My axe barb imbued a 148%ed ancient axe which was so lovely, really ran through hell after that.

It would be great if you made a classic barb! Would be fun to compare drops and stats at different moments. Any idea on the weapon type you’d choose? Anywho, gotta start work now

Not sure to be honest. Whatever is best. Isnt mace/martel best, or are the difference not that big in the end?

Martel is best and has the easiest progression (bonesnap is enough to beat the game if you can’t get a good rare)

Polearm is the worst just because it doesn’t really have any standout weapons. Bec de Corbin is the best polearm and it’s not that great compared to other options, but it’s still not devastatingly far behind the other options if you really like polearms.

Lance/ancient axe/executioner are all fairly equal each with their ups and downs.

Lance has the highest max dmg, maximum range, and a decent attack rating base with the Dex reqs on it, but it has poor min dmg and the durability on lances is so low that you’re repairing a very annoying amount.

Ancient axe has the potential for highest life due to the lower overall reqs on it, but going with base Dex means you’re more tied to attack rating on gear. You’ll also probably be statting extra str for damage anyways, so the low str requirement isn’t necessarily super helpful, although it does give you more freedom in your stat choices. The min-max dmg spread is balanced. It has a pretty easy progression weapon in Humongous unique giant axe.

Executioner swords also have a balanced min-max dmg spread with close to equal, but less overall dmg than ancient axe. You’ll have a good attack rating base since it requires 110 Dex to hold, giving you a little more freedom in gear choices (but this also means lower life). You can easily slap on a shield at any time which can be useful in some areas, but isn’t entirely necessary. And finally, to some this may not matter but executioner swords easily show colour shades the best out of any of the main weapon contenders, so it has the potential for the best style! Executioners are the second lowest overall damage (after polearm) with the highest weapon reqs, so unless you like the sword look a lot, the other options are prob better.

That’s how I feel but it’s certainly possible that I’m missing some key aspect here, any classic experts feel free to correct me
