I think in cases like this transparency is good. When you have random 3rd world accounts masquerading as official government accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers it's important to see if it's legitimate or not.

The thing this sunlight is temporary as it doesn't stop those who got exposed from downloading and running a VPN and basically going back to lying.
I don't use X so not sure on the account requirements. As for VPN, a platform like X would be able to detect majority of VPN connections if they choose. Users would have to run their own VPN servers that aren't listed and stay off the VPN IP lists.
Bots ruin everything, like we have learned nothing from D2 bots. The /players was half count after the last big warden ban Nov 2017.
