after pride month, most folks go back to their regularly scheduled programming

yet here we are many months later with it at the top of this subforum

thank you for your relentless dedication in consuming pride content to keep pride top of mind for all as the northern hemisphere heads into winter

I don’t know much about Aleister Crowley because he was obviously a bit of a space cadet and I don’t think researching him would be entertaining enough to offset how pointless it is, but I’d be willing to bet you’re misinterpreting that quote.

“Will” does not mean “want”. This is true even on a surface level, but if you get into the ontology of will discussed by people like Schopenhauer, Kant and Nietzsche it gets a lot more complicated because they don’t really agree on much. Nietzsche wrote “Do whatever you will, but first be such as are able to will.” Which might help explain the difference between wanting and willing without getting too far into one definition or another.

I agree with Kant most of the three though, and he said will was the rational process of following through with a code of ethics. The universe is too complex for us to figure out the full effect of our will before hand, so the value of your will is the motivation behind it. Nietzsche placed more importance on effect rather than ethics, and Schopenhauer considered will to be an entirely irrational driving force in nature. The point is though that Crowley was most likely using a definition of will that you aren’t taking into account when you read that quote.

why should it have to be entertaining?

Individuals should follow their own true will
The phrase "do what thou wilt" is a central tenet of Thelema, a spiritual philosophy founded by Aleister Crowley. It means that individuals should follow their own true will, emphasizing personal freedom and the pursuit of one's true path in life. The full statement is often quoted as "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law," which suggests that one's will is the guiding principle of their actions. Additionally, it is associated with the idea that "love is the law, love under will," further highlighting the importance of love in the pursuit of one's true will.

I don’t mind reading some nonsense, so long as it’s very entertaining. Aleister Crowley seems to be pretty strong nonsense, as you just showed with that space alien, so he would have to be very entertaining to pull me in.

But, again, it’s not “do whatever you feel like.” What you just posted about the quote barely makes sense, sounds like some hippy horseshit to me, but it does suggest that he at least recognized that there is a difference between wanting and willing.
