not sure what you are talking about but maybe google "61% of israeli men"

That claim mixes facts with exaggeration. Yes, there have been isolated cases of misconduct in the IDF, and when they happen the soldiers involved are tried and punished just like in any other military. But to say rape is part of IDF history or culture is completely false. The study about 61 percent refers to a 2011 academic survey on social attitudes toward acquaintance rape, not to actual cases. It showed how people interpret the word ‘rape,’ not that 61 percent of men commit it. Israel has one of the strictest military justice systems in the world, and when crimes occur they are investigated and prosecuted. Turning those few cases into a national label is dishonest and ignores context.

keep in mind proven child molesters caught in the USA are given right to return to Israel, where the govt refuses to extradite them (if we even bother to ask) and doesnt investigate them. they just fade into the society. sex crimes arent exactly a good leg to stand on for any facet of israel.

That’s not really true. There were a few cases where people tried to escape justice by moving to Israel, but they don’t just get a free pass. Extradition takes time because it has to go through court and paperwork from the U.S., but in most cases Israel ends up sending them back once the evidence is clear. The laws have already been updated to stop that loophole, and Israeli police now work with Interpol and U.S. authorities all the time. Saying Israel protects sex offenders is just wrong, it’s a legal process issue, not a policy.

Racism is mental illness

By no measure is racism a mental illness; it is the fear of the unknown, manifested as hate, and it exists in every harsh word, every time someone dismisses another person or group just because they are different in some way.

From the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c3w98224xx8o?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-gb

Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv say they will not accept any ticket allocation from Aston Villa should the decision to ban their supporters from next month's Europa League match be overturned. Birmingham's Safety Advisory Group (SAG) - the body responsible for issuing safety certificates for matches - last week informed Villa no travelling fans would be permitted at the match in the city on 6 November. The decision was widely condemned, with Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy pledging that the government will "find the resources" to allow Maccabi fans to attend earlier on Monday.

But Maccabi Tel Aviv now say supporters will not travel for safety reasons - that "a toxic atmosphere has been created which makes the safety of our fans wishing to attend very much in doubt". A club statement said, external: "The wellbeing and safety of our fans is paramount, and from hard lessons learned we have taken the decision to decline any allocation offered on behalf of away fans and our decision should be understood in that context. "We hope that circumstances will change and look forward to being able to play in Birmingham in a sporting environment in the near future." A government spokesperson said: "We are deeply saddened Maccabi Tel Aviv have turned down their away fan allocation but we respect their right to do so." They added it was "completely unacceptable" that the match has been "weaponised to stoke violence and fear by those who seek to divide us". "The government has been working around the clock to defend a basic principle - that football fans should be able to enjoy a game without fear of intimidation or violence."

On Thursday, West Midlands Police said it had classified the fixture as "high risk" based on current intelligence and previous incidents, including "violent clashes and hate crime offences that occurred during the 2024 Europa League match between " Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam." The FARE Network, which reports on discrimination for Uefa, told PA that it was "reluctant to question" the police risk assessment. Nandy said ministers were working together to fund any necessary policing operation to allow away fans to attend, and the SAG would review the decision if West Midlands Police changed its risk assessment. Nandy said the matter was wider than matchday security, adding it came "against the backdrop of rising antisemitism here and across the world, and an attack on a synagogue in Manchester in which two innocent men were killed".

On Sunday, the Israeli Premier League derby between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv was cancelled before kick-off, after what police described as "public disorder and violent riots".

Maccabi say the decision to call that game off was not down to their supporters and thanked the UK government for its efforts. They said: "We believe that football should be about bringing people together not driving them apart. "Our fans regularly travel all over Europe without incident and to suggest that the reason our fans cannot be allowed to travel is due to their behaviour is an attempt to distort reality. "We acknowledge the efforts of the UK government and police to ensure both sets of fans can attend the match safely, and are grateful for the messages of support from across the footballing community." Aston Villa previously told their matchday stewards they did not have to work at the Maccabi Tel Aviv fixture, saying they understood some "may have concerns". Following Thursday's announcement by the club about the impending fixture, Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the move "wrong" and said: "We will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets."

lets not forget their chanting: “Why is school out in Gaza? There are no children left there.” not to be outdone by “Let the IDF win and f--- the Arabs.”

The former top lawyer in the Israeli military has been arrested, as a political showdown deepens over the leaking of a video that allegedly shows severe abuse of a Palestinian detainee by Israeli soldiers. Maj Gen Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi resigned as the Military Advocate General of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) last week, saying that she took full responsibility for the leak. The fallout from the leaked video is intensifying by the day. Broadcast in August 2024 on an Israeli news channel, the footage shows reserve soldiers at the Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel taking aside a detainee, then surrounding him with riot shields to block visibility while he was allegedly beaten and stabbed in the rectum with a sharp object. The detainee was subsequently treated for severe injuries.

Five reservists were subsequently charged with aggravated abuse and causing serious bodily harm to the detainee. They have denied the charges and have not been named. On Sunday, four of the reservists wore black balaclavas to hide their faces as they appeared at a news conference outside the Supreme Court in Jerusalem along with their lawyers, who demanded the dismissal of their trial. Adi Keidar, a lawyer from the right-wing legal aid organisation Honenu, claimed his clients were subject to "to a faulty, biased and completely cooked-up legal process". On Monday, it emerged the detainee at the centre of the case was released to Gaza in October as part of an exchange with Hamas of convicted prisoners and detainees held without charge by Israel for hostages held by Hamas since 7 October 2023.

Last week, a criminal investigation was launched into the leaking of the video. Gen Tomer-Yerushalmi was put on leave while the inquiry took place. On Friday, Defence Minister Israel Katz said she would not be allowed to return to her post. Shortly after that, Gen Tomer-Yerushalmi resigned. In her resignation letter, she said she took full responsibility for any material that was released to the media from the unit. "I approved the release of material to the media in an attempt to counter false propaganda against the army's law enforcement authorities," she said. That is a reference to efforts by some right-wing political figures in Israel to claim that the allegations of severe abuse of the Palestinian detainee had been fabricated.

She added: "It is our duty to investigate whenever there is reasonable suspicion of acts of violence against a detainee." After her resignation, Katz issued a fierce condemnation of her conduct."Anyone who spreads blood libels against IDF troops is unfit to wear the army's uniform," he said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed his defence minister's words on Sunday, saying that the incident at Sde Teiman was "perhaps the most severe public relations attack that the State of Israel has experienced since its establishment". The Sde Teiman incident has been a lightning rod for the division between the left and right in Israel. On the right, the leaking of the video is denounced as a defamation of the Israeli military, all but amounting to an act of treason.

After Israeli military police went to Sde Teiman to question 11 reservists over the incident in July 2024, far-right protesters - including at least three lawmakers from Netanyahu's governing coalition - broke into the facility to show their support. On the left, Gen Tomer-Yerushalmi's decision to enable the footage to be released is seen as the one time she lived up to the responsibilities of her post. The video is regarded by the left as concrete evidence backing up multiple reports of abuse of Palestinian detainees since the Hamas-led 7 October 2023 attacks on Israel. Last October, a report by a UN commission of inquiry alleged that thousands of child and adult detainees from Gaza had been "subjected to widespread and systematic abuse, physical and psychological violence, and sexual and gender-based violence amounting to the war crime and crime against humanity of torture and the war crime of rape and other forms of sexual violence".

Israel's government said it rejected the accusations of widespread ill-treatment and torture of detainees, and insisted that it was "fully committed to international legal standards". It also said it had carried out thorough investigations into every complaint

I hope this dispels the notion that all Israeli's are bad. It is pretty clear to me that this lady has more integrity then the many users in this thread that look the other way, or defend torture.

I mean the IDF is about 630,000 people and the five reservists were charged and are on trial for the incident. If military men were angels we wouldn't need military courts, that's how the system is supposed to function and why the IDF prides itself on being a moral army.
The female lawyer didn't just leak the video, but also was tasked with investigating the leak and reported not finding any leads, so she definitely engaged in some misconduct. She could have leaked it and owned up to it and challenged them to either demand her resignation or admit it needed to be public, at the time.
That said, there's an obvious orders of magnitude disparity in culpability between "leaking a video and covering it up" versus "anally raping a prisoner so badly you break his ribs"

former* if we're going to be that specific, I just consciously try to specify someone before using pronouns to refer to them even if its the minimum possible descriptor, so I'd say the 5 reservists and female lawyer, enough to know who we're talking about without just saying 'she'

i still dont like this lol. the only reason she is "former" is because, effectively, she was kicked out of the IDF 4 days ago, resignation or w/e. Why are you stressing this? In fact, when i went around the internet, everyone is stressing this. its so weird.

female non practicing lawyer, had some random role in the IDF, she is irrelevant now and a traitor. lets just go with that i guess? unless you want me to eat some chewing gum and kick ass in her defense (which would in effect be a deep dive on those that are calling her a traitor, which i can happily do).
