A bit more than 100k, the US has got 40 million people on food stamps. A 0.25% increase isn't going to change much. Rather, having 40m out of 320m on food stamps is more alarming, that's every 8th household.

I don't think employment is going to see overly posative news for a long time.

There is nothing more American that pitting the most economically vulnerable against their respective needs for food and healthcare.

The only people that should be given food stamps are the elderly and the handicapped.

No one is asking the real questions: why do so many people in a first world nation need food stamps? Is there a problem with employment or the wages paid? Addressing those issues should be the priority long term.
