The good part about maps = You're guaranteed to find whatever the map mods has, you're also able to avoid certain monster types as each map has 10 selected monsters to each map. so if you run Ice charm for example you wouldnt want to run Arctic for example.
What else is good? you cant fall down a trapdoor, meaning u will always end up with the treasure chest at the end of the map. You cant get spins (unless from emblems).
Bad part? They take longer time and guaranteed encounter on every step, so u cant take 4-5 steps without spawning monsters etc. Maps are alot bigger compared to regular maze at the same level. So most of the time it's easier (quicker) to spawn EP in regular maze than maps (unless you're ina really shit maze and get's spins all the time, probably better remaking new cata if that's the case)
edit: "You're guaranteed to find whatever the map mods has" There's a 1 step chance of this not happening if you're getin that encounter on the last step, as a map has always chest at the end you might lose whatever specific encounter u look for if it happens to be on the last step.
It happens quite often on a t1 map that is 25 steps big 1/25 to not spawn a Well for example if u have that on the map.
The information here is 98% correct.
#1 Mistake... if you come across an Emblem in a Map, it has a % chance to be a TRAPDOOR and even if you are a rogue, monk or ninja with the Innate ability to detect trap doors, YOU WILL fall into it.
#2 Mistake... 1/25 is incorrect, it is 2/25 because when you first enter, you encounter NOTHING but an empty square, SO, the last step is only going to be a Treasure Chest ... hence 2/25 square have been designated, the other 23 steps could be anything other than a Trap Door or a Well (Well only appears on maps with +X to wells) as for the trap doors they do NOT appear, however, an emblem (say your map has more emblems) could be a Trap Door.
NOTE: every time you drop in a Trap Door, the dimension increases in size... catacomb or Emblem trap door.
The rewards of doing maps are based on what Modifiers that have dropped, also, if you work out the Level Cap and what level to start the map to completing the map you can reap the rewards. Hey, don't take notice of me.
Maps have a set dimension size and a monster level cap.
Take a Tier I map, 5x5 (ALWAYS) ... Monster level cap is 15... you can clear 5 of these maps from level 10 to 15. HOWEVER, if the Tier I map has +X Monster level cap, this increases the Monster level cap from 15 to X number of the modifier... let us say +10 level cap... so this means the Tier I map monster level cap is now level 25, you can clear the 5x5 dimension from level 20 to 25 easy as pie.
Now, the mods make a difference... more EPs means increased Experience... actually an EP will give you double experience of the monster spawned.
There are a lot of things or how you can use maps to benefit, however I do agree, the higher Tier (level) of the Map is, the longer it takes to clear them before getting to the Monster level cap.... example, starting a level 55 map at level 55, you won't clear it by level 71 (feeder MQ)... however, if you are a Headhunter, you will clear more before Master Quest... not sure if completed though.
Other people clear maps for % GP chance at times, and 99% of my information is based on solo'ing.
I never completed this, I wish I could have, also I did make a thread, it is passed the 3 month term:
Just a side note about clearing a catacomb that you returned to after sleeping and leaving the game up... it doesn't influence the map drop when finally completing it ... example: not guaranteed to be Tier I or Magical. Purely RNG or just luck.
Anyway... after sleeping and randomly playing through a catacomb and completing by level 21, I got an Arcane Tier III map (did not use ML gear either)
Arcane tanned mountain map
+6 Warm Lights
+4 Evil Presences
+4 Treasure Chests
+94% Warm Light Effectiveness
+1% to 17% Item Drops
Quantity: 3
Actually decent map.
Just a check up... dimensions are: 12 width x 9 height (level 15 or 16 start) ... also bringing the data forward:
Continued: Add on.
