What is a more plausible explanation for this sudden spike in graduate unemployment: that they have far worse social skills than the grads from just 2 or 3 years ago, or that their jobs are getting replaced by AI and Indians?
The hiring market has just cooled. As an employer who hires graduate students my line of work isn’t getting replaced by AI (at least yet). But a few years ago it was virtually impossible to get grad students in the door because they had already been gobbled up. Hiring has just slowed. It was an employees market a few years ago and now it’s an employers market at the moment.
