Of course he had other rough starts, every pitcher does?

The back to back games he had in May where he was tipping his pitches and gave up 20 earned runs over 5.2 innings absolutely inflated his ERA lmao. An entire earned run. He has a 3.03 outside of those two starts. His K:BB ratio is elite, his FIP and other metrics are VERY good.

Of course every starters numbers will improve if you remove their worst two starts...but Luzardo's is an outlier big time.

Guy can be a bit immature for sure, and mentally needs to keep it in check (he gets very emotional out there) but he also has the stuff to roll through a lineup with ease. His strikeout ability is among the best.

Start Ranger game 3 on the road. He's cold blooded in the playoffs and proven. Give him the tougher task.

Bro your just making disingenuous statements. The guy had alot of blow up games, his whip and opp avg isn't good. Hes like a 4th or 5th starter whose forced in starting the second game. Your so obsessed with his K rate. Which is feeding into other adv stats. Ideally this guy isn't pitching a playoff game for you

obv he is starting game 2 cuz he is a better pitcher at home than on the road, which im sure he is well aware of. gives them a way better chance to get to game 5 doing it this way

183.2 IP
216 SO (4th most in MLB)
57 BB
2.90 FIP (6th best in MLB)
28.5 K%
5.3 fWAR (6th best in MLB)

Enough said.

He's a 4th or 5th guy in the Phillies great rotation when healthy, sure. He's a #2 or #3 at worst on a lot of teams though lol.

He had a very good season. Streaky, yes. When hes on, he has ace level stuff. Of course hes not an ace because of that up and down blowup risk, but in terms of his stuff he is outstanding. Just needs to not tip pitches and stay in check mentally. He doesn't lack the talent that's for sure.

Largely agree with this. He's a solid #3 or #4 pitcher. The Phillies know that, but with wheeler gone and nola sucking, he's up

He does have a sub 3 era if you take off the 20 ER over 5.2 innings, but I don't agree with dm there. You can't just pick and choose which games to count lol.

Nobody disagrees with him being a mid rotation guy, he's their #3 right now which is fine. This rotation is deep, so they can handle the Wheeler loss better than most could. He has great stuff, but he's very inconsistent. But this start makes all the sense. Start him at home, give Ranger the road start.

Look at Luzardo's home numbers this year as well. He had the one start where he had 12 ER's over 3.1 innings. Tipping his pitches, he got absolutely shelled. But over the other starts he posted very good numbers which is the norm. Not to mention Luzardo had a 2.14 ERA and a strikeout to walk ratio of 36:1 over his last five outings at home.

Offense still has to show up. Luzardo may keep the Dodgers at bay, hopefully, but offense needs to fucking shown up consistently otherwise it doesn't matter. We can't expect him to shut them out lol. A quality start would be nice but scoring on Snell isn't exactly an easy task.

This offense isn't good enough for the playoffs. It just isn't.
