The wind had howled and I had barely been able to breathe and my hands had split open from the cold but I hadn’t stopped moving or I would have died right there. They had abandoned me on Everest like I was nothing and the mountain itself had closed in. The alpacas had come out of the blizzard snarling with jagged teeth and wild eyes and I had fought them with my bare hands, grappling in the frozen drift until fur and blood and snow were one, because there had been nothing left to lose. I had torn into their meat raw and frozen choking it down while blood ran down my chin because hunger hadn’t cared about pride. My vision had blurred and my body had failed but one thought had dragged me forward through the storm one dream that would not die even if I did: I had to survive I had to make General Chat great again.
