Notice how I make an argument by first stating my premise and then giving evidence that supports that premise, and you make an argument by saying "NO U"

Before they had even gotten up to speak I had decided to listen to Kamala and Trump's convention speeches while tallying how many times they negatively referred to the other candidate, to get an idea for how much positive vs negative campaigning they were doing. As a matter of fact, I've got both transcripts right here still;
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/19/us/politics/trump-rnc-speech-transcript.html
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/23/us/politics/kamala-harris-speech-transcript.html

Trump never referred to Kamala by name a single time, only grouping her with Biden in some tame criticism of his opponents performance, and only mentioned Biden by name once while criticizing his administration a few times, but overwhelmingly he gave a positive speech. Kamala by contrast spent every minute that wasn't about her origin story talking about Trump and how much she hates him. 19x 'trump', 30x ' he ', etc etc, search it yourself.

Now contrast these central themes of their speeches:

vs

Do you understand the difference between someone who is purposefully fanning the flames of hatred and someone who has consciously appealed to our better angels?

You’re a smart guy. When you want to articulate your position in good faith you can. Too often you resort to making assertions you know aren’t true in an attempt to distort or misinform. You know it, I know, everyone on this forum knows it.

Ultimately whether you decide to act on that is up to alone though. But you can do better.

A discussion about civility in American politics and the only response you make to arguments is to impugn motives. History buffs get the irony.

The U.S. Senate has passed a resolution declaring Oct. 14, 2025, the birthday of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, as the National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.

Trump has had numerous opportunities to make things far worse for our country by taking the low road. And yet when things started going too far, or his base's extremism started to become a liability, Donald Trump used his cult of personality to restore civility. We should be thankful for that, and wary that we've got 3 more years where Trump could backslide and start echoing the same outrages that were perpetrated against him and take that eye for an eye. I keep posting about how cognizant we should be of that threat. But you cry wolf every time and we'll be myopically inured to the danger if it does manifest.

Iirc he caused the riots and then made 1 tweet for peace after the mob failed to locate and hang Mike Pence.

This is the guy who never took the low road in your view? I dont think its been any lower, or the usas reputation and influence globally for that matter.

right, I know how to solve this. Your both crap and irrelevant. America is a terrible country with terrible politics, both parties are irrational and incompetent. There, You may commence to unite against a common foe.

The things I do for unity.

I think we should all honor Charlie Kirk's civil rights efforts on that day by reminding black people that they are ruining america

And maybe no black pilots allowed to fly on that day so there's less dei related airline accidents

completely on board with the notion of unify the middle, but these are lone voices in a storm of conflicting views.

Sadly the middle has drastically shrunk over the years. I hope we can return to a more moderate, cooperative politics though. I’m not naive an enough to think this will happen right now, but I would love to see jungle primaries+ranked choice voting which would permit third party candidates and more centrist/consensus politicians. Even if we could the media would be a challenge, but it would be a step forward.

"never took the low road" =/= "he rather pointedly did not do it at every opportunity"
Was pretty clear on that point.

Trump took the low road plenty, but every time it led off a cliff he turned his party back to civility
Democrats took the low road every time and kept their foot on the gas even when mobs were torching city blocks

When did the democrats ever turn around and say their supporters were going too far, the outrage against their opponents was overblown, the persecution of the other side must stop?
I gave pretty specific examples for Trump. Hillary post-election. January 6th. His assassination attempt(s). Qanon and pizzagate. Unite the right
Trump tells people to stand by and stand down and you want to hold that against him, while Maxine Waters flew to Minneapolis to tell the mobs to "stay on the streets" if Chauvin got acquitted
