So it looks like Jimmy kimmel got cancelled after making a joke about trump not really caring about Charlie kirk death. Root of the issue from what im reading is related to a nextar merger that is underway and would require fcc approval and they'll need to appease trump if the loyalists in the fcc are to approve.
Sure private companies have a right to do whatever they want but its rather explicit here as it was in the case of colbert that the trump admin is leveraging its capabilities to impact businesses to ensure that speech that trump doesnt approve of can be cancelled.
Isnt this supposed to be the party of small govt?
The root of the U.S. issue is a divisive culture where Republican has been set against Democrat, father against mother, husband against wife, brother against sister. This divisive culture was manufactured decades ago and institutionalized by Mitch McConnell’s obstructionist politics. In the last decade, particularly — though not exclusively — under Donald Trump, it has culminated in a point where the masses in society are verbally attacking each other like crazed animals.
Look at the assassination of Charlie Kirk: Tyler Robinson came from a conservative Republican family, yet in the months leading up to the killing he appears to have broken with them, radicalized online, and was living with a transgender partner while immersing himself in political debate. That kind of ideological whiplash — going from one extreme to another — is itself a product of America’s toxic political environment: politics is no longer about policies but about identity, loyalty, and enemies.
What Jimmy Kimmel said WAS NOT extreme, but it is a symptom of the disease rotting inside the heart of the United States. There is no indication that things will moderate, given that both Democrats and Republicans are too entrenched and stuck down their respective rabbit holes. Biden outright called Trump supporters “garbage,” and in recent days Trump said, “I couldn’t care less” when asked about mending the nation's polarization.
So by all means, defend hate speech, rail when free speech is curtailed — but you also have to swallow that every time someone says something nasty about the other side, it’s just one more dent in the Titanic’s hull.
and finally, mindful of recent conversations:
