Hello!
My son and I just installed my old Diablo II + LOD on his Laptop.

We have an issue when we ran the Video test, it says there are no Video modes available.

We tried to run it as an administrator, and in compatibility mode with Windows XP Service Pack 3, no effect.

When we run DiabloII.exe or Game.exe, it's all black after the intro.

Do you know what the issue is?

Create a shortcut, right click, go in to properties. Under the target field add:

-w -direct -txt

That should force it to render and run in windowed mode

Works in windows mode, but not full screen.

I can see that someone is saying online, that DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtimes (June 2010) should be installed for this to work,

I will try this too :)

Yeaaa the window mode is a little inconvenient at first. After a while I preferred it to full screen mode.

If you don’t want it window mode, just add the -direct -txt and leave out the -w, would just force it to render

Worst case scenario:

Download from: https://www.svenswrapper.de/english/
• Drop the glide3x.dll into your Diablo II folder.
• Run the Glide config tool and set it up.
• Then select 3dfx Glide when you run the video test.

Best case scenario:

Download Diablo 2 Resurrected. Would work seamlessly on your sons laptop, I play it on a laptop with a 1660, cap it at 60FPS and no issues

add the -direct -txt and leave out the -w does nothing, still black :/
DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtimes (June 2010) does nothing, still black :/

Will try CnC-DDraw now

Windowed mode is better anyways. Takes a minute to get used to, but if you go window mode and change the resolution it doesn’t look toooo terrible

You just used the disks eh? Try downloading the installer from battle.net, still use your cd keys, but it might have whatever’s missing? I dunno. I’m guessing at this point
