Could also be a cheap internet provider issue, who's your provider?

open task manager and delete any instances of discord. They tend to hide. It will look for updates that way too.

should also work too. For me I just ctrl alt del and there's always an instance running that makes it do that it's pretty frustrating but it is what it is.
