GENETIC FALLACY
The genetic fallacy is the error of judging an argument by its source or history, rather than its content and logic.
my experience with the genetic fallacy usually plays out like this.
"if you were born in a muslim country you would be a muslim. if you were born in a jewish country you would be jewish. you were born in a christian country thats why your christian."
the above statement has some truth. but its not a viable argument determining if any of the beliefs are true or false.
I am glad you are learning logical fallacies that I have taught you over the years.
Yes you correct if someone said that would be considered a genetic fallacy. But there is nuances here you might be not ready to understand.
For example the statement is partially true with one word added it would be considered not a fallacy. "If you were born in a muslim country you would
likely be a muslim"
Just like when science says a big bang
theory not a big bang. Where you intentionally misrepresent that and say atheists believe in big bang. Thats called strawmanning.
Another nuance is dependant on the validity of the the claim in question.
For example: when the doctor tells you that the voices in your head and Casper the friendly ghost isnt real do you tell him. "Doctor you are using a genetic fallacy on me. You are judging the source of my claims rather than the content and logic"
The doctor politely tells you that magic is not real and administers a dose of sedative medication. The doctor isn't compelled to prove to the patient that ghosts and magical voices aren't real.
You are welcome to provide proof for the doctor to convince him you aren't crazy but until then a doctor will assume otherwise.
