I dont have the answers but id probably go along with whatever medical science says will lead to the most positive outcome for the child.

Also a dubious prospect when the medical sciences are being held hostage at knifepoint by the social sciences.
Anyone with eyes knows that the DSM is tainted by trans activists who only care about social outcomes rather than health outcomes.
Studies that disagree with preestablished results get nixed, any critical hypothesis will get you fired, mobs will pillory anyone who disagrees.

I mean we had a big study try to cut through the political influence and the result of a metaanalysis of the cohorts in all the trans studies was- no statistically significant improvement or possibly negative outcomes for trans-affirming therapy/surgery, when looking only at non-subjective outcomes like suicide rates. But at the same time, parents are being emotionally blackmailed and coerced by doctors who buy into the tainted science and say just bluntly tell parents that their children will commit suicide unless you give them HRT. And then even those who are skeptical or politically opposed will reluctantly go along with it, even if they might believe its a mistake. Precisely the case with the mother of the minneapolis trans gunman.

I think the emotional blackmail only works if you are someone (probably white) that already buys into that narrative and would jump at the opportunity to make your child into something they are not.

Im skeptical myself given the influence of identity politics on medical science and would avoid any drugs or surgery as more often than not they just grow out of it.
