It’s crazy to me how if someone just reads this thread it’s so easy to understand how this happened and could happen again.

They really believe that someone disagreeing with them = oppression = Nazi = someone that can justifiably be attacked/killed.

Word is that the shooter was a nick fuentis fan who posted on a bunch of far right sites, guess we will know soon as he is alive and will likely speak.

I thought the Utah governors speech was really powerful and the type of message we need in the moment.

Would have been nice for that type of message to come from the president but we sadly all knew he’d just seek to pour gasoline on the fire and seek to drive division for his own political gain because that’s just who he is. Nothing to be surprised by there anymore.

He wasn’t spreading hate speech. He was using speech they hated. And he had to die for the courage of speaking up. The best we can do is honor him by continuing his legacy.

If you were to seriously look at this fourm I think the ones most likley to go off a deep end are not on here actually.

Ti is obviously insane and probably could be easily manipulated and then you have the other guys Lod or whatever who seems off the deepend.

People using exaggeration in this thread just to be jarring I don't think is the same as actual mentally ill people and I believe there's a difference. There's a billion people who enjoy saying jarring stuff online, but it's the actual mentally unwell ones that could be convinced or convince themselves to carry out such an action.

I guess you could make the case that because the internet has made people prone to making dumb jarring comments to be edgy online that they would never say in real life that then you have these mentally ill people like Ti reading it all and it emboldenes them. To that I'd agree. Easy enough to see how someone not all there could be wound up to the point of action.

There are quite a few folks who express pretty extremist takes on jsp (both sides of the aisle). I imagine some truly believe to the extent they suggest but my guess is that a lot of folks puff up their chest a bit and the views expressed online are exaggerated from what they actually believe. Maybe it makes them look tough, idk.

Maybe I’m wrong but I think that’s part of what we see on jsp and elsewhere.

Yeah attempting to be edgy is probably a better way to phrase it than I did. I do think you’re right that if people see these exaggerated views/claims/beliefs over and over it’s likely that some will truly take those to heart and that becomes their true world view.

I think it’s a big part of how we’ve gotten to be so hyper polarized.
