I tried to get sober Monday but I randomly found weed in my house after I drove 2 hours 40 minutes to my friend Adam’s house to give him the rest of my weed (so I could quit drugs and alcohol)

I smoked a small amount of weed the last 3 days

But today I’m getting sober for real

I’ve been to 3 AA meetings since trying to get sober

But I’m going to go get my 24 hour chip tomorrow

Because why not I guess

I’m getting sober off everything because I think I can grow more as a person if I get sober (financially and spiritually and otherwise)

I had 2 years sober before but I messed that up and started drinking and smoking again

Anyway here’s to forever

You got this brother! Next time if you find some reefer in your house, you should immediately flush it down the toilet instead of driving for 2 hours to give it to your friend! 2 hours is too much time to think about it and giving it to a friend that also smokes the reefer is just asking for trouble! Of course your friend is going to peer pressure you into smoking the reefer with you! :)

As any other case, never should of started.

Warning, this isn't good for you. So even starting is the main issue here. Stopping is just as easy as starting, just quit doing it. If you are struggling to quit then clearly you don't want to stop.

I'm an addict, if you gave me 1 ounce of blow I would do the entire bag.

Same with weed, if you gave me 1 pound of the best weed in California I would smoke it all.

I have no off switch.

That's why I'm quitting also.

I don't expect everyone to understand what addicts / alcoholics go through or how difficult it is for some addicts or alcoholics to quit drugs and alcohol

But I'm going to do it this time.

Going sober after many years or decades of using is a tough road. I hope that you can reasonably stick to it. And, don't be too hard on yourself if from time to time you stumble. Keep pushing out of your life harmful influences and bring in some good people. Godspeed!

The most tone deaf - daft reply to OP's thread.
The brains chemistry simply doesn't work like that, unfortunately.

I'm pushing 14 years sober (you can do it OP!) but it's not something you "beat". The battle that it starts as doesn't stay so hard, but there's the constant vigilance that a slip up can come, and more frustratingly, is how easy it is to substitute the bad tendencies with new things.

In the end, I've learned that all addicts are addicted to the same thing - more - and becoming self aware to seeing when we're falling into that pattern takes time. Avoid the dopamine hits, sit in that silence and find the peace after the grief, then you'll find the vibrance and enjoyment in everything else. Also, more difficult to accept - don't expect celebration or acceptance if bridges have been burnt. That's the hardest part to deal with, is even if you full 180 and make full improvement in your life, there will always be some that have made you the villain in their minds.

Breathe, mediate, grieve and truly feel the emotions. It gets better after they're confronted
