More on point. People have choosen to see their purchasing power, quality of life, and all else detoriate around them the past 45 years. And what did gun ownership do which is my point. Nothing. If offered zero freedoms from corporate greed, government control and the lobbying behind it all.
There's zero need for arms for state and corp rule over. People watch the people they voted for generate incredible wealth (congressmen) while on a gov't salary full well knowing they're bought out and purchased by the same companies ruining lives.
Guns do nothing for freedom, not here, not anymore. That's the point. Americans like anyone else will take it lying down and have been. Evidence is right there.
Gun ownership provides individuals with the means to resist coercion, whether from criminals or, in extreme cases, the state. Dismissing this as irrelevant ignores how gun rights align with individual autonomy, a cornerstone of a free state. The “slow erosion” you describe and I agree with itself is a reason why armed citizens remain relevant.
As for doing nothing, I recall many protests around the 2020 era where participants were armed open carrying such as in Michigan. The usage of their 2A 'bear arms' amplifies political voice in those instances. This pressured lawmakers without actual violence.
Further back, there was the Battle of Athens in Tennessee where citizens (mostly veterans) exercised their 2A to restore security to their jurisdiction
Beyond that USA is vast. Myself in particular, takes emergency services 20 minutes to reach here, so it absolutely provides a measure of safety for my family and neighbors.
Most gun owner* I've met are way more stable than the anti-gunners TBH. Most
